How Self-Presentation Affects Your Business

Self-image and self-presentation are two concepts that go hand in hand. Katherine Suzette, a personal stylist and body language coach shares her outlook on the importance of Self Image and Self Presentation.
How Do You Define Self-Image?

Self-image is about personal branding and being authentic.
It’s about creating the image that you want to be presented successfully on the outside.
But before that, it’s vital that you understand yourself at a deeper level in order to understand the meaning of self-image.
Failing to understand and know yourself can create some red flags when it comes to self-image. Most of these situations come from inconsistency. Imagine yourself comfortable with who you are and then an external stimulus or problem comes up and now, you’re unsure of yourself. This means that you need more time to explore your self-image as well as to accept yourself.
As a personal stylist, Katherine mentions how people get carried away into creating a self-image based on their work or what society demands of them and this leads to problems down the road. It’s important to put yourself first!
How Does Self-Presentation Affect Business?
Being comfortable with yourself and creating a solid self-image without inconsistencies is key.
You are the brand image and if there’s consistency in how you carry and present yourself, you build interest and trust with your business.
There are going to be many other people in your niche and expertise, but the key to building a successful business is to be yourself. Be genuine and people will follow. Have people connect to you and not just the product or service that you’re offering.
Trying to build an image that you feel spells success, as opposed to really thinking about what makes you be you, will only lead to stress and conflict – not just within the business but within yourself.

How Can an Inaccurate Self-Image Affect Mindset?
Many people get trapped into creating an “avatar” of themselves to project as their business and brand image. In doing so, they risk feeling trapped and not being able to tap into the more genuine, real version of themselves. They feel it’s inaccessible and they risk falling deeper and deeper into frustration and depression. You’re trapped and stuck within yourself.
But, we can stop that from happening! How?
You are going to face success and failure at any given moment on your path to scaling your business. That’s normal! Don’t brew in those failures but use them to plan ahead and learn why you wound up in that situation. Is there something you could have done differently? Was your plan of action effective?
Your brain is wired to thrive on success, so step out of your comfort zone and try something new! Prove to yourself that you can do whatever you put your mind to! Start small and work towards a bigger goal. This applies to your business plan as well! Start small and work your way up!
Keep a journal. Writing down moments when you’ve failed or faced a struggle is equally important as writing down your successes. It gives you a way to look back and learn from what you’ve done in the past and how to continue working in the future.

At the end of it all, it’s important to be in tune with yourself. Take the time to learn about yourself, what you like, what you don’t like, how you work effectively, what you need to improve your business, etc. The more you’re honest with yourself, the easier it will be to understand your self-image.
Once you have a strong understanding of self-image, your self-presentation will express that as well.
Your body language will be in tune with your mind and your wants. It’s only a matter of time before success will come knocking!
